Recently the Gaza Strip was taken over by Militant Hamas. Soon after, they demanded all the guns in Gaza. The Turn in Day only yielded three things, none of which were firearms, but instead were 'looted government property'.
The Palestinians understand something very significant. That is, if you hand over your guns, you may be handing over your rights. Getting control of guns is only the first step in a Dictator's plan-take the guns, and soon all the rights of the people will be yours.
I wonder if Hamas was showing that it really doesn't care about the rights of the Palestinians when they issued this order.
That scene in Gaza City on Thursday, the Hamas deadline for turning in illicit weapons, showed that the Islamic militant group faces serious trouble in getting its hands on Gaza's estimated 400,000 firearms.
The three discarded items fell under the category of "looted government property" that Hamas also demanded be turned in, but it was arms the group really wanted.
Hamas leaders threatened harsh punishment for anyone caught with guns after the deadline.

Hamas wants the guns, but its ok, a Hamas spokesman clarifies further in the article:
"But if people use guns to cause strife between families or to attack the official and unofficial institutions, they will be collected."
And what were Americans doing in 1776? Sometimes, when government serves their own interests, and puts the people in danger or is unreasonable, it is a person's duty to do something about it. And is that what Palestinians are doing?
I do not blame any Palestinian who will not turn in their weapons. They are living under a tyrannical government that may soon attempt to install Muslim law. They will need to protect their rights. This shows Hamas is afraid of the people-and that should be government's attitude everywhere. And for that, I say Way to go Palestinians!
